Month 11 Weekly Lesson Plan
Do one short activity from each column, three or four days a week. Keep each one to about 10 to 15 minutes, and stop when your child loses interest.
| Week & topic | Letters & language | Math | Science | Art, music & movement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1: My neighborhood and maps | Practice saying their full name and your name. | Count steps from the door to the mailbox. | Notice land, water, and trees in your neighborhood. | Draw a simple map of a room or the yard. |
| Week 2: Our country (flag and symbols) | Read a book about the flag and talk about its colors. | Sort red, white, and blue items. | Find your state or country on a globe. | Make a flag craft and sing a favorite song. |
| Week 3: Around the world (foods, languages, homes) | Learn how to say hello in three languages. | Tally the foods you try from different countries. | Find places on a globe and talk about land and water. | Dance to music from a different country. |
| Week 4: Calendars and time | Use the words yesterday, today, and tomorrow in sentences. | Mark the calendar each day and count to the end of the week. | Trace a shadow in the morning and again in the afternoon. | Make a calendar craft with seasonal drawings. |
Not sure how to fit this into your day? Use the sample daily rhythm.
Letters to Practice This Month
Write their full first name with the correct letters.
Play with letters through games, not drills: find them on signs and cereal boxes, trace them in sand or salt, and say the first sound of everyday objects. Knowing some letters is a typical milestone at age 5, so there is no pressure to master every letter.
Words to Use All Month
Use these words in everyday conversation and while you read. Hearing a word in many settings helps it stick.
- map
- country
- flag
- world
- calendar
- yesterday
- today
- tomorrow
Supplies Checklist
Everything here is common household stuff. Tick items off as you gather them.
Easy Activities to Try at Home
Try this
- Room map: draw a simple map of your room or yard with symbols for the bed, door, and tree.
- Taste the world: try one food from another country and find that country on a globe.
- Shadow tracing: trace your child’s shadow with chalk in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Read together
- Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney
- This Is How We Do It by Matt Lamothe
Check your local library. Ask the librarian for more my town, my country, my world books.
Make It Easier or Harder
If your child needs more support
Do just the room map and one hello in a new language.
If your child is ready for more
Let your child lead the calendar and name two coins.
Parent tip: Practice safety skills: your child’s full name, your name, and what to do if lost, like finding a helper such as a parent with children or a store worker with a badge.
Month check-in: Your child can say their full name and tell what day was yesterday and what is tomorrow.
Month 11 Preschool Curriculum FAQs
How do I teach coin names?
Use real coins and name them one at a time: penny, nickel, dime, quarter. Start with just two, such as a penny and a dime, and sort them by color and size.
How do I teach the days of the week?
Sing a days of the week song every morning and point to the day on a calendar.
How can I teach about other cultures respectfully?
Choose books by authors from those cultures, try one food or song together, and talk about how people are alike and different. Avoid stereotypes.
